When Paul Wilkinson blew his £156 life savings
on a fashionable purple, 1976, Ford Capri 1.3L, little
did he realize that his dream car would soon turn
out to be a nightmare!
It
all started well. With his aftermarket accessories
from Halfords and a CB radio, Paul was soon a
regular amongst the hip young scenemakers cruising
the mean streets of St Leonards, East Sussex.
But
then late one January evening as Paul returned
home from a night out something unusual happened
- Paul explains, "It was a clear dry night,
I was driving along a familiar, well lit road
about a mile from my house, when suddenly I felt
that I was losing control of the car. It was as
if invisible hands were wrestling for control
of the steering wheel, at the same time I was
overcome with nausea and a strange smell appeared.
I felt dizzy and was sweating like a pig. The
car was swerving one way then the other as I struggled
with the otherworldly invader. Finally, the car
mounted the pavement and demolished a post box
before crashing through the front window of Tonino
Grande's Italian Pizza Parlor. Luckily no one else was injured. The next thing
I knew I woke up in Hospital with Doctors telling
me I was lucky to be alive. The whole thing was
unbelievable, I never thought I'd come in to contact
with dark forces, but now my whole life has been
turned upside down".
Paul's,
friends confirmed his story. Craig Lappin, 47
year old Landlord of The Titanium Man in the West-End
of Hastings, told us, "It was just a normal
night, Paul left at the usual time and I closed
up. He hadn't drunk any more than normal, about
12 lagers, a couple of shots of Jack Daniels,
a few chasers and a bottle of Malibu he won in
the quiz, I suppose the only strange thing was
that he drove home in his new Capri instead of taking his usual minicab".
The whole episode has disturbed Paul so much that he has sworn not to drive again until he gets his licence back.
